A wee while ago, on a very hazy and humid day, a good friend and I took the coastpath from Carne beach to Porthcurnick in search of lunch. 

We started at Carne, a wide, flat and sheltered beach next to Nare Head on the Roseland Peninsula. To take the coast path from here, you need to follow the road out to the right from the car park and head up the hill past the Nare Hotel; there is some building works on the left, but if you look closely just past them you can find the entrance to the path. This leads around the back of the Nare Hotel. 

The path follows the cliff until you reach Pendower beach just to the west of Carne. Here head across the sand and there’s a slip road on the far side, curving around to reach another carpark. Follow the carpark up the hill, past a large house on the left; the path starts again just past this houses driveway and leads through the trees back to the coast. 

The rest of the path takes you past rocky outcrops and little beaches until you eventually reach Porthbean and then Porthcurnick beach. Just up the coast from Portscatho, this little paradise is flat and sheltered. We parked up on the beach and skipped up to the Hidden Hut for lunch. After noshing on dhal glory, we had a dip in the sea before heading back to the car.
